Choose the task before you copy
| If you need to… | Start with | What you should have at the end |
|---|---|---|
| Find out what you remember | Make a practice quiz | One question at a time, with feedback tied to your notes after each answer |
| Understand a wrong answer | Understand a wrong answer | The first reasoning gap, one hint and a new question to solve yourself |
| Use a short study window | Plan a realistic revision session | Time blocks for weak topics, mistakes and a final check |
Use material you can check
Start with your notes or an assigned passage. For the queue-and-stack example above, the source contains only two definitions. A question about the performance of either structure would need another source, so remove it from the quiz. Compare the generated answer key with the passage before using it to revise.
Attempt before revealing
With the queue-and-stack notes above, the first reply should contain one question, not a full quiz and answer key. Answer from memory; then check the feedback against the two definitions before moving to the next question. If the assistant reveals an answer early, tell it to ask one question and wait.
For a mistake you have already made, use the second prompt and stop at its hint before reading the explanation. Follow your course’s rules for AI use. For a complete study-session method, see how to use ChatGPT for studying.
